Photos on Canvas - Friday 9 May 2008

by the Extra Team

Looking for a way to turn your pictures into works of art? Now you can and it's easy. There's a growing number of retailers offering to to print your most precious photos onto canvas, and it's cheap.

"It's become really popular, we started the company four years ago and it was very quiet, but things have really picked up. We ship about 30 thousand prints a year around Australia," says Liam Tovey from Brilliant Prints.

As well as choosing the size and shape of your canvas, you can pick whether you want your print to be in colour, sepia or black and white.

After it's printed, the canvas is sprayed with a special laminate to protect it. Brilliant Prints say your canvas should last for about 75 years.

Harvey Norman also offers a similar service.

Justin Roberts from Harvey Norman, says you can turn a fairly small photo into a work of art. "You only need a three mega pixel photo. Because you're printing on a surface that has a fairly rough surface, it doesn't show up pixilation.".

Story info:  In our story about transferring photos onto canvas we spoke to Liam Tovey from Brilliant Prints. You can email your photo through to Liam and his team and they'll pop it onto a canvas. It'll take about three days - prices start from 58 dollars. You can contact them on 37137336. We also visited Harvey Norman, which offers the service.
