RICH KIDS - Friday 27 April 2001
by the Extra Team
The Rashad family - Trish, Morris, 7 year old son, James and Tom who's just 4 years old, say learning about money is not a game.
Morris Rashad told us
"We want to make sure our kids grow up and they understand they don't have to make apologies for being wealthy."
The game the Rashads are playing is called Cashflow For Kids. It works like a balance sheet. ..the more assets you own the richer you get. Now Cashflow and Monopoly are the boys' favourite games.
Millionaire Robert Kioyasaki invented CASHFLOW and is the author of
Rich Dad Poor Dad, the book Morris and Trish say changed their lives. From living payday to payday, they say the book convinced them to start making themselves rich.
The picture Kioyasaki paints is a world where we're on our own….Jobs don't last and the money we earn has to keep earning more. Which is why Trish and Morris think it's never too early to start teaching Tom and James.
Kioyosaki has a dedicated following. The story of his smart but broke father and what he learned from a friend is a best seller.
The Rashads are certain it'll help make them rich. Tom and James are already at work on their first fortune - they get paid $2 for every tin of macadamias they collect from their backyard and if they follow Kioyasaki's advice, they'll soon have built a string of neighbourhood nut stands - leased to someone else!
But it's not a religion - Mum and Dad say the boys still like doing all the other things 7 and 4 year olds do.
