The Samford Kennels and Cattery is always highly spoken of by the people who leave their animals there. Recently they've started offering an unusual style of accommodation...for the family pet which has everything.
by It's very much like The Ritz for pets who enjoy the finer things. Three boutique suites have been set up, each with a single bed, overhead ceiling fan and of course a television.
Karen and Garth De Bruin have been running the kennel for sixteen years, but it wasn't until the end of last year they decided to offer the up market service as well.
"We actually visited one in Auckland and they had about 12 deluxe suites for dogs and cats. We had a bit of a giggle and thought it was a bit over the top. However when we saw it, I just thought it was something I'd really love to do back here."
And those who've decided to house their pets in the suites are glad they did.
So popular is this concept, the entire 8 weeks of the Christmas holidays were booked out, as was the Easter break. Not bad considering the service costs $44 a day - but it does also include walks, grooming and cleaning and the animals have regular human contact.
Sure sounds like a dog's life!
