One of the two originals of several EXTRA staff, Doug Murray joined Channel Nine in 1992 when the program launched.
Since then, Doug has become a well-known and highly respected Channel Nine identity.
Over the years, viewers have come to understand what makes a 'Dougy' story and regularly phone the station saying, "This one's for Dougy!"
Doug Murray's career began in 1973 on Melbourne ABC radio where he was a rural affairs reporter before moving to Perth in 1978 and on to television. Doug has since worked in every capital city of Australia.
The winner of two Dalgetty Awards and a long-time journalist with ABC radio and television, Doug became well-known to country viewers though his role as reporter and host of ABC television programs Country Wide and Landline.
He worked on Country Wide for 10 years - the final two as presenter - until its demise in November 1990 when he went on to host its replacement program, Landline.
Doug used to be a regular tipper on the ABC but now only an occasional tipster around the Melbourne Cup.
